SCCYAA EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING
JANUARY 9 , 2006

Attending:  John Moran, Laurie Maddox, Karen Smith, Teresa Thomas, Jim Markosian, Sonya Davis, and Susie Rose.

Call to Order:  John Moran at 7:10

Minutes of November 14, 2005 meeting approved.

New Board Members:  Roberto Taddeo came to volunteer as the boy’s soccer sports rep.  A motion was put forward to place Roberto in that position.  It was seconded and passed unanimously.  Jim Bentz has been appointed as Middle School rep. to replace Jeff Bolle, who relocated.

New Business:

Rocky Mountain baseball sanctioning request-Rod and Nicole Olsen attended the meeting to request sanctioning of a 3rd grade super league/comp. baseball team.  They will hold an open tryout within the parish prior to the para tryouts.  They will send a flyer in the Wednesday envelope and place an announcement in the parish bulletin.  The assessment is planned for late February.  Practice will begin April 12, with games beginning April 22.  The executive board will vote and let the Olsen’s know the outcome.

New draft tryout policy-Markosian & Taddeo.  All present board members received a handout.  We reviewed the policy and made some changes.  Jim Markosian will make the changes and email the revised policy to all board members to review.

Open positions draft announcement-Rose.  Susie Rose also gave a handout, to all present board members regarding the open SCCYAA positions.  It was decided to drop the facilities and equipment chair position.  Each sport rep. will be responsible for the equipment.  The sports rep. position was reviewed and changes were made.  The revised position for wrestling sport rep, baseball sport rep and Para basketball sport rep. will be posted on the web site.  The para league rep. position will also be posted.

PARA meeting with Mary Fasig-Moran & Rose.  A meeting was held with Mary Fasig.  She was introduced to the SCCYAA program.  She wasn’t aware that we had left the para baseball program.  It was explained to her the problems that have arisen.  She will work on solutions, one of those being arranging a meeting with Willie Price and John Morrell.  Currently there will be no major changes however; there will be a follow-up meeting.

Assemblies-Moran-It has been suggested to hold sports assemblies.  Invite all the parents to see the sports offered to youth at St. John the Baptist elementary and middle schools.  In January or February an assembly would be held to introduce spring sports. 

In May we would introduce fall sports, and in September it would be winter sports.  There was also some discussion about including information on childhood obesity and target heart rates and other health issues regarding children.

Lacrosse donation-Maddox.  The Eagle Lacrosse Club donated 30 lacrosse sticks to the elementary and middle school physical education programs.  Thank you very much.

Upcoming Sports-Preseason Planning:

Boy’s soccer-Roberto Taddeo.  Roberto will send a flyer in the Wednesday envelope, and also in the parish bulletin seeking coaches.  The play begins the end of March.  He will obtain coaches evaluation forms from Coach Cramblitt. 

Girl’s Softball-Thomas.  Information will be going out in the Wednesday envelope and the middle school newsletter on February 1. The deadline for registration is March 1.  Assessments will be held on Feb. 12. The middle school teams will be 6-8 grades.  The elementary teams will be 3-5 grades. There is currently an open gym on Saturdays from 3-5 p.m. in conjunction will Rinaldi. Steve Cramblitt is available every other week.  The open gym will also begin to be available 1 day a week, to be announced in the future.
