Minutes of September 12, 2005 meeting approved.
New Business:
Update from SCCC meeting on 10/4/05 – Moran and Maddox
Memo of Understanding-It was approved that the memo of understanding will be rewritten by Dave Simpson (pending approval) and circulated to the high school coaches. This will help to have the high school coaches involved the mentoring, and coach’s clinics.
Future policy for coach selection-If we have 5 coaches and they all want to be head coach, who gets to be it? A policy needs to be put in place for just such a situation. Steve Cramblitt will help in making this policy. This is another reason why a memo of understanding would be helpful; to have the high school coaches instrumental in selecting head coaches.
Safe Environment Compliance-There are no exceptions. If you are not compliant, you DO NOT coach!!!
SCCYAA logo-accepted and will be used.
Safe Environment status – Darby
All football and volleyball coaches have completed theirs. All wrestling and basketball coaches need to complete. Basketball coaches need to have theirs done before tryouts, or they will not be able to attend tryouts. Safe environment is good for 3 years. If you don’t get the certificate at the end, you haven’t completed the whole program. Register under Skaggs Catholic Center.
Website status – Rose
The website is days away from being online. It contains a myriad of information, the mission statement of SCCYAA, access to safe environment, and to the athletic handbook, also to any forms needed including bulletins and the executive board names and email addresses. It will have the ability to list sports information, such as coaches, teams, and schedules. It also contains the SCCYAA logo.
Future newsletter/communications – Rose and Maddox
For now we will continue using the HSA newsletter. They would like a column from SCCYAA every month.
Winter Sports:
Wrestling – Pete Gallegos will coach this winter. Nothing will be starting until February 2006.
Basketball – The basketball draft will be held in a closed gym with only coaches and players. John Miller made a motion that children playing on a sanctioned comp team and ineligible for sanctioned para teams. The motion was seconded by Laurie Maddox and was passed unanimously. It was brought up that no teams are allowed in the gym until 3:30 p.m.
Fall Sports Update:
Volleyball – Davis
The season has been good. There are some tournaments coming up. Nov. 7-8 for the 4/5 grades, and Nov. 11-12 for 5/6 grades
Facilities and Equipment:
Each representative of his or her sport needs to assign a coach or parent to be the facilities person. They will be in charge of opening up, set up and lock up. Keys will be signed out at the beginning of the season. The person needs to request the keys from John Moran and the keys will come from Elmer. Indoor sports need a card key to the building, a key for the light lock, a main key to open doors and a key to the kitchen area for the first aid kit. Outdoor sports need keys to the locker, stadium, bathroom, and main gate.
Old Business:
Final policy for replacing SCCYAA officers for non-participation.
A motion was made by Laurie Maddox that if a SCCYAA officer misses 2 consecutive meetings without an excuse, the board will direct an email informing them that they will be dismissed if another meeting is missed and if the person is not interested in continuing as an officer they will be dismissed. Teresa Thomas seconded the motion. The board agreed with the exception of Matt Cassell who opposed.
